The origin of sound is a vibration, it alters the air pressure around it, spreading from its center in all directions, like waves to disturb the calm water with a stone. Waves can be large or small but all pass in time. 
And as can be articulated in four ways: - Intensity: The sound volume is given by the amplitude of wave and is measured in decibels (dB). In the guitar depends on the work done by the right hand.
- Duration: The fraction of time it occupies, it can be shorter or longer. This is what gives a musical rhythm.
